A LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR
Rev. Luis López
Dear parishioners of OLR church:
Greetings in Christ,
As you know, since the last September 1st, Bishop Michael Barber has appointed me as new Pastor of this community.
It is with great appreciation to the Lord and His leading in my life that I now begin my journey here at Our Lady of the Rosary serving as your Pastor.
I wanted to be sure to take this opportunity to send you a brief note of thanks as well for accepting me here as part of your church family, and rest assured, I am looking forward to joyous and fruitful ministry in the years to come.
Let me share with you about my life. I am originally from El Salvador and the oldest of four siblings. I grew up in a catholic environment attending Sunday Masses, serving as an altar boy and teaching catechesis in my home parish.
My vocation story was impacted by the example of Saint Oscar Romero, who was Archbishop of San Salvador and martyred in 1980. One of the St. Oscar Romero’s sayings became my inspiration: “A good shepherd must be where the suffering is, and the only true leader and fountain of hope is Jesus Christ.” I graduated from the University as teacher and I taught for almost ten years before I entered in the Seminary. I began my priestly formation in January 2005 in Costa Rica, then Mexico and finally at St Patrick’s Seminary and University in Menlo Park, CA.
I was ordained as priest for the Diocese of Oakland on May13th, 2016 and have served as Parochial Vicar in St Anthony, Oakley and Divine Mercy Parish, Oakland. On July, 2019 I was appointed as Parochial Administrator of Corpus Christi, Fremont. On August 5, 2024, Bishop Michael Barber appointed me as new Pastor of Our Lady of Rosary Parish, Union City, effective on September 1st, 2024.
As your new Pastor, I want to give thanks to all of you for making our Parish a home for all. Let us continue to pray for one another as we begin this new journey together.
Our Lady of the Rosary, pray for us!
Rev. Luis Lopez
