For Those Needing Help / Por los que Tienen una Necesidad

Are you having a difficult time?  Can you help someone who is?

Below you will find the programs that we offer at Our Lady of the Rosary to help anyone in our local community who needs assistance.  These programs also provide an enriching experience for volunteers who want to make a difference in someone's life.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL FOOD PANTRY

Our parish has a food pantry that is open on Friday evenings from 6:15 to 7:45 p.m.  The pantry is located in a small trailer next to the driveway on "B" Street.

Volunteers are also needed to stock the pantry, prepare bags of food, and to distribute the food.  If you want to help, please call Deborah Pagaduan at (510) 468-1691.

MAKING DONATIONS TO THE PANTRY

Much of the food that stocks the pantry comes from donations -- from companies and individuals.  In the Parish Bulletin, a selection of three food items that are most needed at the time are listed each month -- our parishioners are encouraged to purchase these items and bring them when they come to Mass. There are donation bins placed at both entries of the church.

If you wish to drop off food donations during the week, please call Deborah Pagaduan at (510) 468-1691 to make arrangements.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SERVICES

In addition to operating the food pantry, the parish St. Vincent de Paul Society also helps people with unexpected expenses which prevents them from getting to work or living a safe, healthy life.  Situations that we have helped with in the past are car repair, medications, short-term motel stays, clothing, furniture, rental and utility assistance.  If you find yourself experiencing any urgent needs similar to these, please call the St. Vincent de Paul hotline at (510) 706-5852.

St. Vincent de Paul can always use volunteers as well.  If you want more information on joining St. Vincent de Paul please call Solomon Lincoln at (510) 507-1911 or Donald Marquez at (510) 259-8596.

FRIDAY FELLOWSHIP DINNER

On Friday evenings at 6:00 p.m. we have a hot meal in the Eddie Dobrec Room of the Parish Hall (click here to find the location on the Parish Campus).  The meal is available to anyone free of charge -- those who are lonely, in need, elderly, or those who cannot cook for themselves.  There is no need to pre-register -- just stop on by.

Volunteers are also welcome to help with this dinner.  We set up teams that staff the dinner a month at a time to help serve the dinner and perform various other tasks.  At times parish groups and organizations offer to staff it for a month.  In addition, local high school students often help out at the dinner to fulfill their community service requirements.  If you want to learn more about helping us with this dinner, call Greg Stewart at (510) 366-4934.

CAREavan SAFE PARKING PROGRAM

Our Lady of the Rosary is a participant in the Union City CAREavan safe parking program.  This program provides safe overnight parking in quiet parking lots for individuals and families that live in their cars or RV's.  The CAREavan program operates at Our Lady of the Rosary on Friday and Sunday evenings at 7:00 p.m.  Other services that may be provided are restrooms, a location to heat up and eat food, and from time to time snacks and simple meals.  Participants in this program must pre-register.  To pre-register for CAREavan, call Jesus Garcia with the City of Union City at (510) 675-5482.

CleanStart MOBILE HYGIENE UNIT

The CleanStart Mobile Hygiene Unit, a 50-foot trailer containing restrooms, showers and laundry facilities that is a joint project of the Cities of Fremont and Newark and the County of Alameda, is stationed at Our Lady of the Rosary on Fridays from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. -- a convenient time for those eating at the Friday Fellowship Dinner or parking in our lot for the CAREavan program.  There is no need to pre-register for CleanStart -- just stop on by.
